T.W.I.G.S.—True Wisdom In Growing Souls—is Chewstick’s creative-development and early-intervention programme for young people ages 14–17.
Creative expression with purpose.
A place to create, connect and discover what you have to say.
Through writing, singing, rap, poetry, music, storytelling and performance workshops, participants can discover their talents, build confidence and develop practical life skills, including teamwork, empathy, communication, emotional regulation and non-violent conflict resolution.
The programme supports young people through a critical stage when alienation, peer pressure, gang recruitment and growing exposure to graphic violence—both in the community and online—can influence identity, behaviour and decision-making. Creative arts and self-expression are widely recognised as effective tools for youth engagement and intervention, providing constructive ways to process difficult experiences and build purpose and belonging.
Through regular workshops and monthly Youth Open Mic events, T.W.I.G.S. replaces unstructured time with positive activity, trusted relationships and meaningful opportunities, while creating pathways into Chewstick’s young-adult programmes, creative networks and leadership opportunities.
