His Art, Her Poetry featuring Works by Richard Hill and Performance by Patricia Nesbitt | 7pm | $15
This Friday and Saturday at The Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge, artist, Richard Hill will present his first solo art exhibition alongside a poetry performance by Patricia Nesbitt. The event, dubbed, “His Art, Her Poetry” will showcase the works of Richard Hill in a range of mediums including oil, acrylic and charcoal and depict a variety of subjects from still life drawings, to nature and portraits. The exhibition will feature more than 20 paintings that will reveal Richard’s artistic journey, his inspiration and artistic experimentation. The evening will also feature the poetry and lyrical stylings of Patricia Nesbitt.
Co-organized by Richard Hill and Patricia Nesbitt, “His Art, Her Poetry”, will provide a diverse range of featured paintings, underscore an active exchange of ideas, styles, and modes while celebrating art in all its forms. This will be Richard Hill’s debut showing of his art in Bermuda and he is committed to organizing and presenting exhibitions that prompt critical reflections.
His Art, Her Poetry situates poetry and visual art together to provide a comprehensive experience for the audience, as an important moment for the examination of talent, culture, song and a potent source for meditation. The evening will start at 7pm with the Harbourfront providing a selection of hors d’oeuvres as the attendees admire the artwork and select pieces for purchase. Prices range from $175 to $950 with pieces to fit every budget. “Visitors to His Art, Her Poetry will appreciate the visual splendor of the works on display, then at 8pm they’ll discover the clear artistic offerings of Patrician Nesbitt’s presentation of poetry and song.Included in the showcase will be a dynamic mix of Cedarbridge students Lishon Martin and two participants from The Chewstick Foundation’s Break The Chains program, Rakaya Simmons and Ashanti Stovell.
Entry to the event is $15 with proceeds going to the artist, there will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres available and refreshments will be for sale. Fiyah Marshall of Hot Fiyah Sounds Entertainment will be featured in an evening, sharing his unique musical style, that fuses reggae and island vibes with an ever-widening expanse of sounds crossing multiple genres creating what has been called “Urban Dancehall”.
Fiyah’s music style has always been described as a cross between Sean Paul, Shaggy, and Sean Kingston. The 3 Kings have graced many stages across the island for a number of years. “Waste” is part of an art project about human interest which focuses on the human desire to accumulate material wealth. Through spoken word and visual art, Sharla Bean offers a very personal account of the effects of “waste” as it pertains to society and consumption. Her work is very honest and straightforward and seeks to connect the audience with her through the open expression of the vulnerabilities we share, as part of the human family. Jules (of the Ital Foundation) will accompany this beautiful poet on guitar.
