Gombey Festival Mural Painting Honouring Phoenix Gombeys

Join us for an incredible artistic experience! Chewstick is teaming up with the Department of Culture to create a stunning mural of the Phoenix Gombey Troupe as part of our ongoing Gombeys in The Gardens mural. The newest installation will be brought to life during the 2024 Gombey Festival Showcase at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday, October 26, 2024!

Everyone is welcome to paint – grab a friend and JOIN US on the western side of the Jack King Building during the Gombey Festival on Saturday, October 26th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM!

This is your chance to be part of a creative movement through Chewstick’s Community Art Program (CCAP), dedicated to inspiring, enlightening, and healing our community. Together, we aim to honor the powerful artistry of every Gombey troupe on the island, celebrating their cultural impact and legacy.

The Phoenix Gombey Troupe mural will continue to evolve until it’s complete, and we need YOU to help us make it happen! Want to get involved? Email info@chewstick.org or call 292-2439 to be part of the magic!

Summer Retreat 2024 – FIRST TIME EVER Camping on White’s Island!

For the first time ever, The Chewstick Summer Retreat will be taking place on the historic and picturesque White’s Island, in Hamilton Harbour! White’s Island is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, and this summer, the activities will be as exciting as ever! From swimming in crystal-clear waters, to camp fire singalongs, to self-guided nature hikes exploring the island’s diverse flora and fauna, there’s something for everyone.

Creative workshops, yoga sessions, fun group activities, games, swimming and fishing are all happening, ensuring that adventure and relaxation, are just a breath away! So if you are needing to disconnect, connect, or reconnect; if you are an adventurer, or in need of a tranquil escape, or you just want a bit of a break, or maybe you and your family would enjoy an affordable ‘stay-cation’ – if any of this resonates, then The Chewstick Summer Retreat on White’s Island is for you, and promises a priceless experience!

Epic Traditional Camping

A staple of the Retreat is breaking down barriers and connecting people together, and this greatly benefits from staying together. We are pleased to be able to maintain this frame, while exploring the new White’s Island campus, all made possible with the debut of Chewstick’s brand new Emperor Dorm Tents! These tents are huge game-changers! Big enough to comfortably accommodate everyone. Sturdy enough to stand up to any storm. They stay warm in the winter, and cool in the summer, striking a perfect balance between rugged adventure and communal comfort; you just have to bring your bedding.

For the less adventurous folk, please don’t panic! There are still bathrooms, showers, and a kitchen on the island, so the creature comforts and amenities are all within reach like we are used to. And for those that are still not sure about it, the answer is ‘yes’ you are welcome to bring your own tent if you prefer.

What’s the schedule?

The Retreat is designed to fit into the ‘typical working schedule’ so that more people are able to participate in this rewarding experience without having to sacrifice their existing work/life balance. That said, the Retreat schedule fits into the regular weekend, and the general schedule is:
Departure: Friday, June 28, 2024 @ 6:30pm
Boat leaves Albouy’s Point for White’s Island

Returning: Sunday, June 30, 2024 by 2pm
Boat leaves White’s Island for Albouy’s Point @ 1pm

So how much does this ‘priceless’ experience cost?

The Retreat is heavily subsidized by the ongoing work of The Chewstick Foundation (Bermuda Registered Charity #857), along with the generosity of Donors and Sponsors. This helps to make this program as affordable as possible because we do not want pricing to be the reason you are not able to participate. If the cost is still a challenge for you, please email info@chewstick.org to work out an agreeable arrangement. Also, if you would like to Sponsor a Retreater, please email us, there are always those in need that could use your help.

Retreat pricing is all-inclusive and covers:
